This years’ Urban Crew Enterprise Day took place on Friday 24th March at MCA.
All of the 11 Urban Crew schools had the opportunity to come down and meet one another for the first time this year. The event was also supported by volunteer mentors from Manchester Rotary Club and Barclays Bank.
The Urban Crew is a project that is run in conjunction with Manchester City Council Housing and all participating students are working towards an ASDAN Key Steps accreditation by completing various challenges throughout the year.
The Enterprise Day meets a number of challenges from ASDAN module 7 – Enterprise. All of the groups were provided with the materials they needed to run their own business for the day:
- Seymour Road – Keyrings
- Holy Trinity – Fridge magnets
- St Patricks – Photo frames
- Briscoe Lane – Jigsaw puzzles
- Abbott – Badges
- St Edmunds – Bookmarks
- MCPA - Biscuit decorating
- Charlestown – Greetings cards
- All Saints – Coasters
- St Mary’s – Door hangers
- Irk Valley – Snap bracelets
Each group had to demonstrate good teamwork by working together to create their products, design their stall and agree their pricing strategy and marketing plans.
After lunch the marketplace was open to some of our Y8 students and our volunteers who were provided with “Urban Crew Dollars” to spend. There were some fantastic ideas with MCPA creating business cards, Charlestown offering “buy now, pay later” to the Rotary members and other groups using their resources to create additional products and add-ons.
Urban Crew have been running the Enterprise Day for over ten years now and never seen this level of innovation and competition!!
All teams received high praise from our volunteer mentors and our winning teams on the day were:
- MCPA – Best sales
- St Mary’s Most profit
- Abbott – Best teamwork
Each receiving a certificate, trophy and some sweet treats!
Huge thanks to everyone who supported and participated in the event for making it such a great success!
