Over 300 homes across Newton Heath and Higher Blackley will benefit from millions of pounds of carbon-cutting improvements.
As well as saving almost 750 tons of carbon emissions a year, the projects we’re delivering will help to reduce residents’ fuel bills and make homes warmer.
80% carbon reduction on Croydon Drive
In Newton Heath, £12.5million improvements will be made to four high rise blocks managed by Avro Hollows on Croydon Drive Estate: Lancaster, Lincoln, Dobson and Shackleton Courts (pictured above).
The planned improvements – which include ground source heat pumps, triple-glazed windows, insulation work and communal area upgrades - will benefit 288 flats.
It is expected that carbon emissions will be reduced by around 680 tons per annum (an 80% reduction) as a result of the work.
Up to 92% carbon reduction from Riverdale maisonettes
In Higher Blackley, £2.5million improvements will be coming to three maisonette blocks managed by Northwards on Riverdale Road and Inchcape Drive, benefitting 28 properties.
Work planned includes ground source heat pumps, external wall insulation, triple-glazed windows, re-roofing, communal area upgrades, new bathrooms or kitchens where due and rewiring. We’re also looking into the feasibility of installing solar PV panels and battery storage.
Carbon emissions are expected to reduce by around 64 tons a year once work is complete – a reduction of up to 92%.
The final designs for both projects are being planned and work is expected to start in the new year.
